- Start small but early. Grow your business online as you get feedback from customers
- Make sure that the top management is sufficiently involved in the internet efforts
- Have a clear strategy and measurable goals (save order costs, increase traffic, develop international sales, increase loyalty or frequency of visits etc.)
- Don't spend all your budget on site creation. Budget also : site management, online and offline advertising, site updates, customer support to answer emails
- Because Internet habits and technology change rapidly, you should divide your annual budget into small sub-projects that will be implemented to your site every 3-4 months.
- Be ready to question the way you conduct business traditionally. Your marketing and IT staff may be challenged by online concepts and business models. Their reluctance to change should not undermine your internet efforts
- You should keep it as a general rule that content produced for paper brochures should be redrafted for online usage.
- Your internet presence should not be isolated. Try to build a network by linking your site with your partners, distributors, and other service or content providers that could enhance your online offering.
